Police Blotter: 2 Cars Stolen Within 24 Hours

The following information is gathered from the City of Grosse Pointe Public Safety department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

City of Grosse Pointe detectives are investigating the theft of two vehicles that happened within 24 hours. In the first case, a 76-year-old woman reported that her 2001 Dodge Caravan was stolen between 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 19 in the 700 block of University Place. In the second case, a 35-year-old man reported that his 2009 Jeep was stolen between 11:30 p.m. June 19 and 9:30 a.m. June 20 from his driveway in the 800 block of Lakeland. The man walked out of his house June 20 to discover his SUV missing. Inside the Jeep, the man had a portable GPS unit, an iPod, a child safety seat, a set of golf clubs and miscellaneous clothing and books, according to a report. Patch is awaiting more information about whether police believe the thefts are related. 

Theft

A 61-year-old employee of Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe reported that several of her credit cards were stolen from an employee-designated room from June 17 to 18. The woman discovered the theft about 7 a.m. June 18 and called police. She cancelled her credit accounts, according to a report.

Drunken driving

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a man June 14 about 1 a.m. after it was discovered he was intoxicated. The man was stopped near Vernier and Helen after a license plate check revealed an issue. When the officer approached the driver's door, the man smelled of alcohol. The 39-year-old man had a 0.10 percent blood alcohol content. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license, according to a report.
