Police Blotter: Alarm Likely Scares Away Would-be Burglar

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A Grosse Pointe Farms man called police early Friday after his burglar alarm sounded at 3:45 a.m. and he found a door to his garage ajar and a garbage can lid propping open a fence gate. Responding officers searched the area and the City of Grosse Pointe's K-9 officer, Raleigh, conducted a search. They found a person in the 200 block of Grosse Pointe Boulevard but could not make contact with that person. The resident of the home in the 40 block of Fair Acres Drive told officers he did not immediately see anything missing from his home. Public Safety Director Dan Jensen said he believes the would-be thief was scared off by the sounding alarm.

Delivered Package Reported Stolen

A woman and her 18-year-old daughter reported Aug. 30 to Grosse Pointe Farms police that a Fed Ex package delivered to a home in the 90 block of Muir Road was stolen. The women live in East Hampton, NY, but have a duplex on Muir Road that they use when traveling back to Grosse Pointe. The lower unit is rented out by a company the woman hired to screen and sign tenants. The women were awaiting the arrival of the package, which was from the teen's father and had a Tory Burch wallet with $500 cash. The teen is preparing to start college at the University of Michigan and the pair was spending a few days getting ready. Both witnessed the FedEx driver pull up and get out of the truck. They saw a man with a little girl take the package from the driver and then when they got outside to retrieve the package, it was gone. The leasing company contacted the woman who leases the lower unit and the women called police to report the theft, according to a report.

He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and child endangerment.

Threatening Call Reported

A 68-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms man reported to police that he received a threatening, harassing phone call from an unknown person looking for a woman with the same last name. The man told the caller he did not know the woman and the caller began yelling at him and threatened to come to his house and shoot him. The caller identified that the woman he was looking for was wheelchair-bound so the Farms resident searched for a woman by the name the caller provided and called. She confirmed that she is wheelchair-bound and lives in the Grosse Pointes so the Farms resident informed her of the call and then reported it to police as well as a matter of record, according to a report.
