Police Blotter: Arrests, Thefts, Help for Gunshot Victim

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating a variety of reports, including a car hitting a tree and a carjacking pursuit that ended in a crash.

arrested a 35-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms man for drunken driving and destruction of property May 21 about 3 a.m. in the 1000 block of Three Mile Drive. Officers were responding to a complaint by a house-sitter who heard loud banging on the rear door spotted the man driving his car across the lawn and into a tree. The man was trying to contact the resident. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and with damaging the back door of the home, according to a report.

Arrest After Banging on the Windows

Officers also arrested a 61-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man May 20 about 2:20 a.m. outside of a business near Kercheval Avenue and Maryland Street. While on patrol, officers spotted the man banging on the windows of a business and then when one approached the man, he threatened the officer. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Carjacking Pursuit Ends in Crash

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested two 39-year-old Detroiters May 16 following a short pursuit that ended the car crashing into a cement parking block at Mack Avenue and Lakepointe Street. The car's owner had reported being carjacked in Detroit and that crime is still under investigation. Park officers tried to stop the car for driving 45 mph in a 30-mph zone. The driver and passenger both ran from the car after the crash, but officers caught and arrested both. The driver was charged with felony fleeing and eluding police. The passenger was also arrested.

In another case, officers spoke with an 11-year-old boy and his parents May 16 after a resident near Lakepointe and Charlevoix spotted the boy reaching into his car at about 3 p.m. The resident yelled at the boy, which spurred him to run home. The resident followed him and called police. 

Thefts: Car, Bike

Park police are investigating a few thefts. In one, the window of a car parked near Maryland Road and Mack Avenue was broken out and a bag containing clothes was stolen May 19 between 4 and 10:20 p.m.

In another case, a Diamondback Wildwood bicycle was stolen from the 1000 block of Lakepointe Street on May 6. 

Prowler Reported

A resident in the 800 block of Nottingham Road reported a possible prowler May 19 between 2 and 2:30 a.m. after hearing the opening and closing of a storm window. The resident woke to the noise and got up to check, not immediately finding anything. The next morning, an outer storm window was ajar but it didn't appear anyone entered the home. The window was on the front of the home facing the street, according to a report.

Shooting Victim Aided

Park police helped a 29-year-old Detroit resident May 21 who had been shot in Detroit. Officers were flagged down near Mack Avenue and Buckingham Road about 4 p.m. by a woman who reported the passenger had been shot. Officers helped the victim until Detroit emergency medical technicians and police arrived, according to a report.
