Police Blotter: Batteries, Arrests and Drunken Driving

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 61-year-old Port Huron man completing roofing work at the reported being assaulted by a co-worker to police. The man did not report the assault immediately per the recommendation of his foreman but ultimately decided to report it. The man told officers he was working when the co-worker, a 47-year-old Port Huron man, came up to him and struck him in the face with a closed fist. The co-worker then grabbed a metal pipe and began to swing it toward his head, but other co-workers stopped him from striking the man. He told officers he does not know what spurred the attack and that the pair have never had problems prior, according to a report.

Missing Donation Check Reported

's Choir treasurer reported to police that a check given to the organization by a local business as part of a fundraiser had been lost. She told officers she alerted the business that the check had been lost and asked that a new one be re-issued. The contact person declined to do so until after checking with the bank and then when the treasurer returned again, the business contact said he would not do so as the check had been cashed. He told the treasurer he would tell her who signed the check. She felt filing a police report was necessary since the $25 would be unaccounted for in the choir's records.

Domestic Violence Ends in Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 39-year-old man Oct. 19 for domestic violence after his wife called police from a street corner near their home. The woman told officers they had been arguing and that he retrieved his gun but handed it to her. She threw it in the bushes and he yelled at her about getting it back into its container. During the argument he followed her around the house, pinned her on the wall and threw her to the ground after picking her up by her jacket several times. She went outside, sat on the front lawn and he picked her up and threw her down again, struck her in the face several times and then when he went into the bushes looking for the gun, she walked to the street corner to call 911. The man left after he knew police were coming, according to a report.

Shoplifters Ditch Stolen Merchandise

police are investigating the theft of several items from by three men who entered the store and then ran out the backdoor with nearly a rack's worth of merchandise Oct. 19. The men were last seen running north on Notre Dame with about $600 worth of Northface merchandise. Officers from Grosse Pointe Farms assisted by searching the area for the men but did not locate them. However, the merchandise was recovered near a property in the 700 block of Notre Dame a short time later, according to a report.

Drunk Driving Arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 38-year-old New Baltimore man about 3 a.m. Monday for drunken driving near Mack and Moross. The man had the emergency flashing lights on, catching a patrol officer's attention. He pulled into a Mack Avenue gas station, parked too close to the pump, striking his door on a metal pole and then stumbled to get out of the vehicle. Then he used the car and the pump to steady himself. The officer approached to inquire why the flashing lights were engaged, to which the man responded in a slurred manner that was not understandable. The man admitted to drinking and was unable to successfully complete field sobriety tests. He had a 0.19 percent blood alcohol content and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a report.

Vehicle Crimes Under Investigation

public safety officers are investigating damage to a few vehicles in which the windows have been smashed out, the contents of the vehicle have been searched but nothing has been taken. A 2010 Chrysler Town and Country had its rear driver's side window smashed out Oct. 23 between 1 to 8:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of Wayburn. A 2010 Chrsyler 300 had its passenger side front window smashed out between 10 p.m. Oct. 16 and 8:45 a.m. Oct. 17 near Mack and Somerset.

Park officers are also investigating the theft of a 1996 Plymouth Voyager from the backyard of a home in the 1000 block of Maryland between 2 and 8:45 a.m. Oct. 23 and the attempted theft of a Ford F250 Truck overnight Oct. 15 in the 1300 block of Balfour. The ignition was punched out on the truck, according to reports.
