Police Blotter: Battery, Drunken Driving and Vandalism

Police in the Pointes investigate the alleged assault of a cab driver and arrest two drivers on charges of drunken driving.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the alleged battery of a 50-year-old Detroit cab driver who said he was assaulted by a 39-year-old Detroit woman who was his passenger. The cab driver told police that woman asked him to drive her to the Grosse Pointe Post Office, demanded he park in a metered spot and then began yelling at him, using foul language. He said she tried to leave without paying for the ride and then punched him in the head when he asked about payment, according to a report.

Men Arrested on Drunken-Driving Charges

On April 25, Farms officers arrested a 45-year-old St. Clair Shores man who had a 0.33 percent blood alcohol content and was driving near Lake Shore and Provencal roads. Police dispatchers received a call telling police that a red pickup truck had driven through a red light without slowing at Moross and Chalfonte roads. Responding officers said the man in the truck swerved on the road, hit the curb and failed to stop when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop. He stopped once, but drove away when officers approached on foot. He stopped the truck again a short time later and officers took him into custody. He was unable to stand on his own, had slurred speech and had urinated on himself, according to police reports. Michigan's legal limit is 0.08 percent, meaning the driver's blood-alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit.
