Police Blotter: Burglar Breaks Window, Steals Bikes

police are investigating the theft of two bicycles from a home in the 400 block of Barclay June 1. The homeowner discovered that a front glass sliding window had been broken upon arriving home and discovered that the two bikes from the nearby attached garage were missing. The resident said the theft happened between 12 to 2 p.m. that day and noted that a week prior a man had approached his wife at their front door offering to perform interior and exterior window washing. The wife declined the services and sent the man away. The bikes are valued at about $400 and $600 respectively, according to a report.

In an unrleated case, a resident reported his bicycle stolen May 30. The man is in the midst of moving out of his home in the 1000 block of Vernier Road and went inside for about 30 minutes while cleaning out the garage. The man noticed the bicycle missing upon returning to the garage as it had been hanging from the ceiling. He also reported seeing two men driving around in a small car looking suspicious during the time he was moving and cleaning, according to a report.

Signs Stolen, Parking Lot Blocked

The manager of reported to Grosse Pointe Woods police that two men stole two metal signs from the parking lot and strung an orange rubber coated chain across the driveway to block incoming traffic from entering June 1. The manager contacted the restaurant's owner, Dan Curis, who advised him to call police. The manager of came to the restaurant a short time later and shared a combination lock code the men shared with her and helped remove the chain from one pole to open up the parking lot.The Big Boy manager identified the men to police and detectives are investigating. The signs are worth about $150 in value, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 33-year-old Detroit man June 2 after they responded to a complaint that he was inside a dumpster on Touraine Road. The man initially gave police another person's identity when he was confronted but admitted to lying after the officer confirmed a child neglect warrant from another county on the other person. The man did not have any picture identification on him but then gave his real name, for which police found a domestic aggravated assault  warrant from Warren, according to a report.

Baby Formula Stolen

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of baby formula from June 2. The manager of the store called police after witnessing the theft. She told police she became suspicious when the man, who was carrying a brown coat, was spending a lot of time near the baby formula. She offered to ring him up after he selected formula to which he responded that he needed to get his debit card from the car. He then put the can under his jacket and left the store and drove from the Hill in a gold car. The manager provided police with a license plate number, according to a report.

Drunk Driver Arrested

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 19-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man June 2 about 2:45 a.m. after he was spotted passed out in his car on Lake Shore Road near Moross with his car in drive but stopped for the green light. The man initially told the officer he had not been drinking alcohol but later admitted to having beers at a friend's house in St. Clair Shores. He passed three field sobriety tests and failed three field sobriety tests. He admitted drinking when the officer began to administer a portable breath test, which showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.83 percent. He was arrested and initially charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated under 21 years of age, according to a report.
