Police Blotter: Jewelry Reported Stolen in Domestic Parting

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 40-year-old  woman reported the theft of a diamond ring and a diamond necklace from her home Nov. 10.

She told officers her former live-in boyfriend took them while removing his possessions from their leased on home near the lake. The necklace is valued at $1,000 and the ring is valued at $17,000. 

She told officers he took personal paperwork from her desk. She told officers they both paid for the ring, spliting it with $10,000 from her and nearly $7,000 from her former boyfriend. Grosse Pointe Farms officers were at the house twice to stand-by while he removed his possessions, according to a report.

Drunk Driver Arrested

police arrested a 62-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman for drunken driving early Thursday after she was stopped for weaving across the center line repeatedly. The woman made a U-turn in the middle of an intersection on Lake Shore Road and then began crossing over the center line. She admitted to drinking when the officer asked, and she had a 0.19 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.

High Wind Downs Wires

Grosse Pointe Shores firefighters responded to downed wires in the 20 block of Vernier late Wednesday. Responding crews found the downed wires and noted "small explosions occurring due to high winds." Crews contacted DTE, taped off the area and eventually left, alerting residents to call again if there were any new problems, according to a report.

Crash Ends with Citation

Grosse Pointe Shores police issued a citation to a motorist near Lake Shore and Vernier roads Wednesday for failing to stop after she hit another vehicle stopped at a red light. Officers responded to the crash, where both drivers were out of their vehicles. The driver of the stopped vehicle complained of head and neck pain but refused medical treatment at the scene. Both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene, according to a report.

Squad Car Damaged in Crash

A Grosse Pointe Shores police vehicle has an unknown amount of damage after an officer crashed into a utility pole on Vernier Road on Nov. 5. The officer had been using the new in-car computer system at the time of the crash and isn't sure how the squad car left the roadway. The officer complained of a hearing problem and ringing in the ears after the crash. The vehicle has been taken out of service and the damage is being assessed by the department and the department's insurance carrier. It sustained front end and passenger side damage, according to a report.

Campaign Sign Reported Stolen

Grosse Pointe Shores councilman Brian Geraghty reported that one of his political lawn signs had been reported missing from a resident's home on Roslyn Road. The councilman reported the missing sign Nov. 4 after being notified by the resident. Geraghty had replaced the sign for the resident and did not have any suspects, according to the report.

Employee Reports Intimidation by Co-Worker

A 55-year-old Detroit man who works for a business reported feeling threatened by a co-worker, who called him derogatory names and left him messages with vulgar language. The man called police Nov. 8 after finding a note on his desk using vulgar, derogatory language. He provided the responding officer the note and said he has several others at home also written to him by the other employee. He said he feels threatened and intimidated by the co-worker's behavior. Another employee confirmed the behavior to an officer and a manager told officers he had already separated the two by scheduling them on separate shifts. The employer told officers he would have a talk with both them about the situation to fix it. The co-worker admitted to writing the note but denied calling the man names, according to a report.

Son Arrested in Battery of Mother

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 19-year-old resident for battery after he fought with his mother Nov. 9. The woman told police her son grabbed her, shook her and pushed her down during an argument. After he pushed her down, she called police. She complained that her arms still hurt from where he grabbed her. He was arrested and taken to the police department, according to a report.
