Police Blotter: Crash Damages Ferry Fence

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do no indicate conviction.

police arrested a 21-year-old resident Dec. 29 shortly before 3 a.m. after a Roslyn Road resident called 911 to report a drunken driver in the 700 block.

Responding officers found the man's car crashed through the fence at , during which a street sign was also struck. The vehicle stopped partially underneath the schoolyard fence. The driver exited his car and approached the responding officer, who noticed he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol.

The man told the officer he last drank alcohol on Dec. 28 at noon. He could not complete field sobriety tests successfully and did not give adequate breath samples for portable breath tests. He was arrested and a formal breathalyzer was administered at the police station, showing he had a blood alcohol level of 0.12.

During a search of his car, officers found marijuana and related paraphernalia but the man denied smoking before driving. He told police he was cut off by an SUV on a cross street, which is what caused the crash. The man had a medical marijuana card. The marijuana was confiscated and will be destroyed but the man's paraphernalia was returned to him. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a report.

Teens Cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol

Grosse Pointe Woods police issued citations to two 14-year-old residents for minor in possession of alcohol about 1:50 a.m. Jan. 1 after one of their mother's called police to report alcohol was being served to minors at her son's friends house. Officers went to the home on West Doyle Place after the woman called police and the woman inside refused to open the door, citing her dog as the reason. Meanwhile, the woman who called police said she had been in the home, found her son on a bed acting strangely and that alcohol was being served to minors. When she confronted the woman about it, the woman responded with profanity and told her to leave. Three 14-year-old boys were given portable breath tests, which revealed two of the three had alcohol in their systems. A Grosse Pointe Shores teen had none and was taken home. The other two, from the Woods, had 0.11 percent and 0.15 percent blood alcohol content. Each was given a citation and released to their parent, according to a report.

Crack, Heroin Found During Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 47-year-old resident Dec. 31 shortly before 5 p.m. after her mother called police to report she was refusing to leave their home. After officers arrived at the home, the woman walked outside, put a pair of boots in the back seat of a car and they confronted her about not leaving the home. She said nothing was going on and started to walk away. An officer restrained her and asked about what, if anything, she had on her person, to which she said nothing. She had an outstanding warrant for an animal at large offense, for which she was initially arrested. During the arrest, officers found the woman had heroin, a crack pipe, crack cocaine, and a syringe. She was charged with possession of heroin, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of crack cocaine, according to a report.

Woman Charged with Domestic Battery

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 31-year-old resident early Tuesday after her daughter called 911 saying her mother was beating up her father. Responding officers arrived to the home about 3:50 a.m. and found the front door open. They entered, found the woman, her husband and their daughter. The woman told police the couple began arguing after she told him she was leaving him and planned to leave their home that night. She was charged with domestic battery, according to a report.

Loaded Handgun Found During Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 43-year-old Warren man Jan. 1 for driving on a suspended license. The man was stopped near Harper Avenue and Allard Road because the tag on his license plate was expired. During the traffic stop, the officer discovered the man had a suspended driver's license. He was also armed with a loaded gun, which was released to the registered owner. His car was not towed from the scene but left for the registered owner to pick up, according to a report.
