Police Blotter: Credit Fraud, Chase, Drunk Driving

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrest do not indicate conviction.

Credit Fraud Reported by 2 Farms Residents

A 40-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms resident reported to police that his credit card number had been stolen and used to purchase $500 worth of items in two transactions. The man said he had recently been traveling so he is unsure of where the number was stolen but reported the two purchases were not made by him, according to a report filed May 9. 

A 58-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman reported discovering a fraudulent account opened in her name after receiving a notice from a collection agency about an unpaid bill. The woman reported the fraud May 8. It was used to obtain AT&T services for an address in Westland. The bill was more than $1,000, according to a report.

Broken Window Sign of Attempted Break-In

A 75-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms resident discovered someone tried to break in to his car on Preston Place May 7 to 8 after he found a window broken out. The window was partially still in tact but broken with a large hole in the middle, according to a report.

Drunk Driving Arrests

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 49-year-old Detroit man May 9 shortly after 2 a.m. for drunk driving after an officer spotted him driving east on Mack Avenue in westbound lanes near Mack and Warren. The man had a 0.17 percent blood alcohol content. He passed some field sobriety tests and failed others but had a time delay in providing answers. A purse was taken into police evidence after marijuana and $320 was found inside with identification and credit cards belonging to a woman in Clinton Township, according to a report. 

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 63-year-old North Carolina man May 3 for drunk driving after he was spotted making a wide turn onto Kercheval Avenue and nearly hitting the curb. The man failed all field sobriety tests and had a 0.17 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report. 

Man Gives False Name, Runs

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 38-year-old Clinton Township man May 3 near Williams and Moran on a warrant for probation violation. The man was approached at a home in the 300 block of Mount Vernon after he was reported as a suspicious person. The officers found the man outside and he reported he was doing work for the homeowner, who was not home. He did not provide police with his real name and when his boss pulled up to the house, he ran through the backyard to get away from police. Officers pursued him, catching him at Williams and Moran. It was discovered he had a warrant for violating probation. He was also charged with providing false information to police, according to a report.
