Police Blotter: Daytime Burglary Investigated

police are investigating a daytime burglary in which several pieces of jewelry were stolen from three different bedrooms May 9. Officers were called for an alarm to a home in the 10 block of Rathbone Place. While checking outside the home, officers did not find any damage to the house or screens that had been removed. They cleared the scene and about 15 minutes later were called to the home again for a second alarm. One of the resident's had arrived home to discover the front door ajar and the screen to her bedroom was lying in the backyard. Residents searched their home to discover several pieces of jewelry were missing. The residents reported that they never unlock the front door, according to a report. There was a few weeks earlier but it is unknown whether the two might be related. Patch is awaiting more information from police.

Diamond Ring Reported Stolen

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the theft of a diamond ring from a 27-year-old resident who reported it missing from her jewelry box early Tuesday. The woman told officers she knew of one suspect, who had been recently arrested in another jurisdiction. The ring is valued at $1,200, according to a report.

Purse Stolen from Unlocked Car

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the theft of a 72-year-old resident's purse from her unlocked vehicle. The woman discovered her purse was missing from the passenger side floor of her car about 9 a.m. May 15. She had placed it there about 8 p.m. May 14. Her vehicle was parked in the 700 block of University, according to a report.

Credit Card Fraud Reported

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating credit fraud reported by a 55-year-old resident who discovered several purchases she did not make on a bank statement. The woman told police she reviewed the line items on the statement to discover 12 transactions totaling nearly $500 were made without her authorization. She made arrangements with the bank to close the account, according to a report.

In a similar case, the City of Grosse Pointe is investigating attempted fraudulent purchases on a 78-year-old resident's Visa card. The man was contacted by the card's fraud department after two transactions were attempted—one for $11,937.40 and one for $14,107.05. He told officers he did have a suspicious encounter with someone he knows shortly before this happened. After filing his report, the man discovered another credit card was attempted to be used in Las Vegas, according to a report.
