Police Blotter: Drunk, Drugged Drivers Arrested

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a man early Friday for drunk driving after stopping him because of erratic driving near Maumee and University Place. The man was swerving in and out of his lane shortly before 3 a.m. and jerking the car back into line, according to a report. When the officer approached the car, the man had slurred speech, had difficulty pulling out his license and had trouble standing up. He failed field sobriety tests and had a 0.23 percent blood alcohol content on a portable breath test given at the scene. He refused to take the formal test at the station and was taken to an area hospital for a blood draw after a warrant was signed by Judge Matthew Rumora. This arrest is his third drunken driving offense, which means it will be a felony count.

In a similar case, City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 47-year-old Grosse Pointe Park woman Jan. 10 near Kercheval Avenue and Neff Road for operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. She was stopped for erratic driving and could not successfully complete field sobriety tests. She said she had not been drinking but she had several pills in her possession that were generics for prescription medications without a prescription. She admitted to taking one of the pills two hours previously. She is charged with possession of prescription drugs, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and driving on a suspended license, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a man Jan. 11 for drunk driving after he crashed into two legally parked vehicles on Mack Avenue near Norwood shortly before 11 p.m. The man admitted to drinking at an area bar and had a 0.22 percent blood alcohol content on a portable breath test administered at the scene.
