Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating an attempted burglary of a home in the 1100 block of South Oxford in which an alarm likely scared off the would-be burglar. The homeowner woke to the alarm about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 12 and when he went downstairs to investigate, found a screen had been removed from a window. The man told police he leaves the window slightly cracked to get fresh air in the house while running a house fan and that a magnet helps trick his alarm, but the magnet was knocked off during the attempted burglary. Nothing was taken and the man told police the person did not enter his home, according to a report.

N.C. Investment Company Calls Woods Police

Grosse Pointe Woods police surrounded a house this week after an investment company in North Carolina contacted them to report a 58-year-old resident made death threats against himself, the investment company employee and police. Police said the man told the investment company employee during a telephone conversation Aug. 8 that he wanted to end his life and it would have been easier if his daughter hadn't taken away his 9mm handgun. Officers surrounded the house while a dispatcher contacted the man via telephone. Police said she convinced him to come to the door and when he did so, he was holding a knife, which he refused to drop. Eventually he agreed to put it away and put it in his pocket. An officer made him lift his shirt to ensure he was not armed with other weapons and then approached. The officer used a Taser on the man, but he backed away from the door and cut off the Taser wires and refused to come out—prompting the officers on scene to request the Special Response Team to respond. Then an officer got the man on the telephone. He told the officer he was afraid to come out because he feared he would be injured. He was convinced to come outside and taken into custody by Public Safety Director Andrew Pazuchowski. The SRT team searched the home to ensure no others were inside and to make sure no other weapons were inside. The officers found the house in poor condition with many cats, smelling of urine, animal feces and with only a path to move room to room among all of the things inside. The man was taken to St. John Hospital and his family was contacted, according to a report.

She told police she felt threatened by the contractor and asked that special attention be given to her home. The contractor was told to stay away from the home and both parties were told not to have contact with each other, according to a report.
