Police Blotter: Girls, 12, Pay Men to Buy Alcohol

The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department and arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the possession of alcohol by two 12-year-old girls after one was taken to an area hospital foaming at the mouth and vomiting blood. Officers were called to the 700 block of Vernier Road June 4 about 8:45 p.m. where they found the girls. Emergency medical technicians took the incapacitated girl to the emergency room and officers gathered some information from the other girl but it was difficult because of her level of intoxication. She blew 0.12 percent alcohol on a breathalyzer and repeatedly changed the story of how she and her friend obtained the alcohol. At fist she told officers they were given it at a park by five men they didn't know and they drank the liquid not knowing it was alcohol because they were thirsty. She changed her story about which park they were in and eventually officers determined the girls paid men they found outside of a Mack Avenue liquor store to go inside and purchase alcohol for them. The current condition of the girl taken to the hospital was not available. The parents of both were contacted, according to a report.

Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 62-year-old woman June 5 for drunken driving. The woman was stopped on Vernier near Lochmoor Place about 5:30 p.m. without hazard lights and when an officer approached to check on her, she smelled of alcohol. She was also unsteady getting out of the car. She told the officer she pulled over to the side of the road to get directions because she was lost and later admitted to drinking two long island ice teas about an hour before. She was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a high blood alcohol content. The blood alcohol content was not included in the report.

Officers searched the home but did not find anyone or evidence that anyone had been in the house who didn't belong but told the residents that partying juveniles had previously been kicked out of the home when it was vacant and it was possible one came back.
