Police Blotter: High School Break-In, Drunken Driving, and Thefts

Police in the Grosse Pointes are investigating a variety of reports, including a break-in at North.

police are investigating a break-in at in which school officials did not find any damage or anything missing. The break-in happened sometime between about 6:30 p.m. April 16 and about 8:20 a.m. April 17. A school employee reported a suspicious person near the school April 16. Video surveillance footage revealed the same person broke into the school through a window. Officers tried to gather evidence and believe the man may be a 17-year-old reported missing in an unrelated report. 

Drunken Driving

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 51-year-old man April 14 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he left the scene of a crash in the 1400 block of Maryland. The man is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident. When officers found him, the man was found to be intoxicated and he has a previous arrest for drunken driving

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 42-year-old St. Clair Shores woman April 16 near Mack Avenue and Vernier Road on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The woman had a 0.19 percent blood alcohol content. An officer approached her in the parking lot of a gas station after she misjudged a turn, drove over the curb and median and then drove east in a westbound lane. She failed three field sobriety tests, according to a report. 

Copper Pipe Thefts

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of copper plumbing from a home in the 2000 block of Ridgemont Road. A Realtor trying to show the home to potential buyers about 8:45 a.m. April 16 found that a side door was ajar and marred by pry marks. The plumbing was taken from the basement and the Realtor and a worker had last been at the home April 14, according to a report.

In a similar crime, copper water pipes were stolen from a home in the 800 block of Blairmoor Court reported April 15 also by a real estate agent who was checking on the home before having a showing. Officers were able to determine the thief entered through an unlocked window and stole the copper items from the basement, according to a report.

Items Stolen from Outside Homes

police are investigating a series of thefts from the outside of homes. In the first case, four white, plastic lawn chairs were stolen from the front porch of a home in the 1400 block of Harvard April 13; a canvas bag with a roll of stamps, tunnel tokens and other items was stolen from the front lawn of a home in the 1300 block of Beaconsfield April 16; and a basketball hoop was stolen from a home in the 1300 block of Bishop April 17, according to reports.

Car Stolen from Hospital Parking Lot

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the April 16 theft of a car from a St. John Hospital parking lot on Moross Road. The car's owner said he parked and was inside the hospital for about three hours. When he returned to his parking spot, the car was gone, according to police.
