Police Blotter: Hit and Run, Marina Troubles

The following arrest information was supplied by the Grosse Pointes' police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Hit and Run

Police arrested a 62-year-old Clawson man who allegedly hit a vehicle Sunday on Lakeland in the City of Grosse Pointe and fled the scene. When police located the driver, he initially denied hitting the other vehicle. When a portable breath alcohol test was administered, he registered a .208 blood alcohol level. The man was arrested for operating while impaired.

Grosse Pointe Shores police are investigating a report of a hole being punched through the dock in the marina early Monday morning.

In another incident, they were also called Saturday after an oil spill was discovered in the marina. The oil is believed to have come from a crane on a barge located in the harbor. The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club laid absorbent booms to contain the spill. The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating.

Bag Swiped from Car

Police are investigating a report from a woman from New Jersey who said her diaper bag, which contained credit cards and other personal items, was stolen  Sunday from her car parked on Mack in Grosse Pointe Woods. The woman and her family stopped for ice cream at Ashby's, and while they were ordering dessert, the bag was taken from the vehicle.  Police are investigating.

Big Boy Wall Graffiti

Big Boy personnel reported Friday afternoon that someone has spray painted "GW3" on the wall of the restaurant. Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating.

Paintball Shooter

Police were called Monday night to a home in the 400 block of Bournemouth in Grosse Pointe Farms for teens shooting paintball pellets at passing cars and a parked vehicle. The two, 16-year-old teens were picked up by their guardians. Police are investigating.

Unlicensed Driver Stopped

A Grosse Pointe Farms officer working traffic patrol Saturday stopped a car with a shattered front windshield along with an expired plate and a registration tab that belonged to a different car. When the officer checked the driving record of the 60-year-old woman from Detroit, it was discovered that she had her license suspended 25 times and four convictions. She was arrested for driving with a suspended license, improper plate and no insurance.

Teens in Vacant House

Police were called early Saturday to a home in the 100 block of Cloverly in Grosse Pointe Farms after neighbors saw teens entering a vacant home. When officers arrived, the teens were ordered out of the house. Seven teens ranging in age from 15-18 were removed from the house.

Theft at Kercheval Shop

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 49-year-old Detroit man Saturday after he allegedly concealed items and left a store in the 15200 block of Kercheval without paying. He is charged with retail fraud.
