Police Blotter: K-9 Officer Helps with Track

The 's K-9 officer, Raleigh, helped search for a man who was seen driving away from a house fire in Harper Woods on March 7. The man drove away, crashed his car in the 19900 block of Moross Road and then ran from the crash. Officers searched for the man, who had current weapons violations, but could not find him. Raleigh was sent to find him and eventually found found him crouching in a garbage can in the 11400 block of McKinney. The man was arrested by Harper Woods police.

Van Stolen from St. John's Parking Lot

police are investigating the theft of a 2000 Dodge Caravan from the parking lot of . The van's owner parked about 6:50 a.m. March 4 and when she returned about 8 p.m. the same day, it was no longer where she parked it. Officers did not find anything suspicious or broken glass near where the van was stolen. Hospital security was reviewing video surveillance to determine whether the crime may have been caught on camera, according to a report.

Teens Hide in Bushes

The Grosse Pointe Woods youth officer is investigating a situation between three students in which the mother of a 14-year-old girl called to say two boys were harassing her outside of their home. The boys ran up to the home shortly before 10 p.m. March 3, rang the doorbell and then ran away,  one calling the girl an obscene name. Her mother came home within a few minutes and spotted the boys in the bushes when the headlights of her car shined on them as she drove into the driveway. Officers tracked down the boys, who had been staying the night at another boy's house. Eventually one of the boys admitted going to her house but said he was not the one who called her the name. The case had been assigned to the youth officer, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the harassment of a 17-year-old resident by a 16-year-old boy she broke up with earlier this month. The teenager reported that the teenage boy had been making demeaning and false posts on her Facebook page since she broke up with him. She called police March 4 and provided officers with photos of the posts, including derogatory comments, according to a report.

Underage Drinking Leads to Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 17-year-old Harper Woods boy for underage consumption and possession of tobacco March 3. The boy was found walking near Mack Avenue and Cook Road about 12:01 a.m. The boy smelled of alcohol and had a 0.48 blood alcohol content. Officers discovered an underage party was happening nearby but no one answered the door.

Windows Smashed Out of Car

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating damage to a 20-year-old resident's vehicle. The woman reported that her vehicle was parked near a friend's house near Maryland and St. Paul on March 8 when she heard a loud noise outside. Upon checking on it, she saw someone running from her car and found two windows on the passenger side had been broken out. She drove the vehicle home and then several hours later, heard noises outside to see her ex-boyfriend, whose hands were bandaged. He apologized to her for breaking the windows and said he would pay for the damage. The woman asked him to leave or she would call police, but he said it did not matter because his mother is a Detroit police officer. The man 18-year-old man, who lives in Grosse Pointe Park, had broken the remainder of the car's windows, according to a report.

Drunken Driving Arrests

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested four people for misdemeanor drunken driving from March 2 to 4. In each of the cases, officers spotted the drivers disobeying traffic signals or weaving in and out of lanes of traffic.
