Police Blotter: Motorcyclist, Drunk Drivers Arrested in Grosse Pointe Shores

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 31-year-old Inkster man June 11 after spotting him driving 65 to 80 miles per hour in the 1100 block of Lake Shore shortly after 2 a.m. in the rain. Just before an officer spotted the motorcyclist, a pursuit of a motorcyclist wearing the same color of clothing was broadcast from St. Clair Shores but had been stopped near 9 Mile and Jefferson. The original pursuit began in St. Clair Shores, then continued in Eastpointe. It was stopped twice and then he was spotted on Lake Shore in Grosse Pointe Shores. The man was spotted on Marter walking toward Hawthorne. He was on his cell phone and told officers he had been in a car with friends but got out once he discovered they had been drinking. He could not tell police where the friends drove from him or what kind of car they were in. Around the corner, officers found the motorcycle, a helmet and gloves. During the investigation, it was discovered the man had stolen the motorcycle from a home in Chesterfield Township. He was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Shores Court on four charges: unauthorized use of an automobile, two counts of fleeing and eluding police and consealing stolen property. He was ordered to wear a GPS tether pending his preliminary exam. 

Crash Through Park Fence Ends in Drunken Driving Arrest

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 25-year-old Orion woman for drunken driving June 9 in the 800 block of Lake Shore after she crashed through the park fence near Vernier Road. Responding officers found the woman lying near the fence about 25 feet from the car. A witness reported seeing the car driving a high speed, drive through the intersection and into the park. The woman was taken to an area hospital related to complaints about her head hurting. A portable breath test revealed she had a 0.15 percent blood alcohol content. She was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol second offense, according to a report.

Illegal U-Turn Nets Drunken Driving Arrest 

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 32-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man June 8 at Lake Shore and Willison for drunken driving after he was stopped for making an illegal u-turn. The man gained the attention of the police after losing traction of his car's tires to the ground repeatedly and then made an illegal u-turn where a sign says no u-turn. The man had a 0.18 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.
