Police Blotter: Oven Mitts Ignite Recycling Bin

Warm oven mitts placed into a recycling bin April 5 are blamed in a small fire that ignited inside a garage in the 80 block of Stonehurst Road. crews were called to the home by a fire alarm shortly before noon and found flames and smoke coming from the garage. Upon closer inspection, the fire was contained to a recycling container inside the garage. Crews used a garden hose to douse the area and put the fire out. The fire caused little damage, which was mostly contained to the recycling container as well as another one sitting nearby, according to a report.

Car Stolen from St. John's Lot

police are investigating the theft of a car from on April 12. The vehicle was parked about 7 a.m. and then it was missing when the owner returned about 5:50 p.m., according to a report.

Purse Stolen from Grocery Store

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the the theft of a purse from April 12. A 42-year-old St. Clair Shores woman sat her purse down and walked away for a moment, during which it was stolen by two people who entered the store and used the coins machine. Kroger surveillance video caught the crime on tape, according to a report.

Motorist Threatens Another Motorist

A 27-year-old Grosse Pointe Shores resident reported being threatened by another motorist April 7 after pulling into his driveway on Vernier Road. The man said he and a motorcyclist approached a lane at the same time and then a third motorist followed him into his driveway, got out and threatened him, then drove away, according to a report.
