Police Blotter: Park Police Arrest Man in Battery of Eastpointe Senior

Based on a tip, Park officers arrest a man wanted in connection with the battery of an 86-year-old Eastpointe woman. Park officers also arrest a panhandler for outstanding warrants.

Grosse Pointe Park officers arrested a 65-year-old man wanted in Eastpointe in connection with the battery of an 86-year-old woman. Police received information that the man would be traveling through the Park. They spotted the suspected vehicle Feb. 27 near Kercheval Avenue and Wayburn Street and found the man to be a passenger. He was arrested and turned over to Eastpointe police. The victim, who is a resident of an assisted-living facility, was found unconscious and her current condition is not known. The man is 6 feet tall, 330 pounds and is known to prey on elderly women, according to Park police reports. 

Farms Thanks Residents

Grosse Pointe Farms police wish to thank residents for their cooperation during the two most recent snowfall emergencies. According to a release, officials estimate that 80 percent of the vehicles normally parked on the streets were removed to help Department of Public Safety crews remove the snow more easily. The cooperation helped create a safer environment for removal of the snow, according to the release.

Panhandler Arrested

Park officers arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man Feb. 25 after he was spotted begging in the 15100 block of Kercheval Avenue. When officers approached, they discovered the man had outstanding warrants in Detroit and Highland Park. He was arrested and turned over to Detroit police, according to reports.

Parking Lot Fight

Park police investigated a bar parking lot fight that was reported after the fact. Several men were fighting in the 15000 block of Charlevoix Road but police discovered none of the men wanted to press charges, according to reports.

Firefighters Respond to Two Calls

Park firefighters responded to two unrelated calls. In the first case, a resident in the 1300 block of Nottingham Road called Feb. 22 after smelling a burning odor. Crews discovered the smell was coming from the home's furnace, which was shut off and an inspector was to be contacted the following morning.

In the second case, crews responded to a fire alarm from a building in the 15000 block of Kercheval Avenue to find that it was set off by steam from routine boiler maintenance.
