Police Blotter: Rash of Vehicle Crimes Under Investigation

The following information has been gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

police are investigating several crimes involving vehicles.

In the first case, a 2002 Dodge Stratus was stolen from a driveway in the 1300 block of Lakepointe overnight Aug. 16. In another case, a 1995 Oldsmobile Sierra was stolen from the street in the 1000 block of Beaconsfield overnight Aug. 20. In another report, a 2011 Ford Edge parked in the 600 block of Pemberton sustained damage to the gear shift and a broken passenger side window in what police believe was an attempted vehicle theft overnight Aug. 18. During the same night, the rims and tires from a 2011 Ford Edge parked in the 700 block of Pemberton were stolen, according to reports. 

In two other similar cases reported Aug. 20, Park police arrested four men. A 2007 Ford F-450 stolen from outside a business in the 15300 block of Jefferson was recovered by Detroit police at a nearby intersection a short time later. Two Detroit men, ages 27 and 29, were arrested by Park officers. Shortly after 10 p.m. the same day, police arrested two 17-year-old Detroit men after they ran from a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Kensington. The teens were seen tampering with the vehicle but did not damage it, according to a report.

Felony Warrant Arrest

police took a 31-year-old Detroit man into custody following his arrest in Troy over the weekend on an outstanding felony warrant. Jermaine Bryant Little is charged with identity theft, possession of personal identifying information with intent to commit identity theft, possession of a financial device and illegal use of a financial device. Attached to the charges is a habitual offender count due to three previous felony convictions. The warrant for Little's arrest was issued in July 2010, according to the criminal complaint filed in Grosse Pointe Farms court. The narrative circumstances of his crimes were not immediately available Monday.

Walker Cited After Suspicious Activity

Grosse Pointe Farms police issued a citation to a 46-year-old Detroit man early Aug. 22 for walking in the roadway when a sidewalk was available. A patrol officer spotted the man entering a vehicle on Mack Avenue and then spotted him walking away from another vehicle that had its car alarm sounding. The officer stopped the man, who initially tried to walk away but was ordered to stop at gunpoint. The man was searched and the vehicle with the sounding alarm was searched leading officers to believe the man did not steal anything from the car, only opened the door, according to a report. 

Man Died at Home, Police Find

Grosse Pointe Farms police found a 76-year-old resident dead in his home Aug. 19 after a neighbor reported not seeing him for a few days and a recycling bin and trash cans remaining at the street. Officers went to the home to do a welfare check and found the resident on his bed. He was cold to the touch and his doctor signed off on his death certificate, explaining he had diabetes, blood pressure and cardiovascular problems. Police contacted the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office, who gave permission to release the body to the man's family. There were no signs of foul play in the house, according to a report.

Copper Pipes Stolen

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the theft of copper pipes from a vacant home on Barrington Road. The theft happened between Aug. 5-15 and the home has a key lockbox on it, according to a report.
