Police Blotter: Roller Skaters on Lake Shore, Bad Checks at Kroger and Suspended Licenses

The following information is gathered from the public safety departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Roller Derby Training

Grosse Pointe Shores police were contacted about 10 p.m. July 26 about a pickup truck traveling on Lake Shore near Vernier with roller skaters holding onto the sides. The officers stopped the truck driven by a 46-year-old Royal Oak resident who told police he was training the skaters for a derby, according to a report. Officers advised the driver it was not safe to practice on Lake Shore and the skaters entered the truck and left the area.

Running Coyotes

A resident in the 1000 block of Lake Shore called police to report a pack of coyotes attempting to cross Lake Shore about 10 p.m. July 26.

Grosse Pointe Farms

Shed Theft

Police are investigating a report of items stolen during the early morning hours of July 27 from a home of the 100 block of Hillcrest. The homeowner reported a leaf blower, weed whacker, chainsaw and boat motor were taken.

Driving without a license

Police stopped a 24-year-old Detroit woman about 8:20 p.m. on July 25 after she drove through a red light at Mack and Kerby. The driver did not have proof of insurance and her 3-year-old son was in the back seat unbelted and not in a booster seat, according to a report. The driver had an arrest warrant from Warren, multiple suspensions and her license had expired in 2008. She was arrested for driving while license suspended, outstanding warrant and no seat belt for the child.

Sign of the Times

Police are investigating the theft of street signs over the past week.  The signs at Lakeland and Waterloo along with Notre Dame and Charlevoix were taken by unscrewing bolts from the posts. Signs at Kercheval and Fisher were broken off.

Bad checks

Police were called to Kroger in the Village about 1 p.m. July 26 after a 49-year-old Detroit woman allegedly tried to pass a bad check. After store personnel recognized her, she attempted to flee the store and from police. She was stopped at Cadieux and Charlevoix and was found to have no license and a trunk full of items purchased at Kroger and CVS. She was arrested for passing bad checks and driving with a suspended license, according to a report. She has not been arraigned on the charges.
