Police Blotter: Scam Warning, Stabbing Victims Helped, Arrests and Thefts

Police in the Grosse Pointes investigate a variety of reports.

are warning residents of an attempted scam reported April 21. A Bedford Road resident received a call advising her she had won $5.5 million. The caller asked the resident to cash a $3,500 check to pay the taxes on the winnings. The resident also received paperwork in the mail. The caller also tried to gain personal information from the resident, but she refused to provide any and alerted police of the scam.

Stabbing victims helped

Grosse Pointe Park officers helped three 30-year-old Detroit women who had been stabbed in Detroit. The women were driving 70 mph on Jefferson Road in a 35 mph zone about 4:45 a.m. April 24. Officers found that each of the women had been stabbed on Grand Boulevard in Detroit and one was in serious condition. Officers assisted the women in obtaining medical care and preserved the victims' car for processing by Detroit Police crime scene technicians, according to a report.

Arrests

A 16-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man was arrested April 23 after crashing his father's car into a light pole at Jefferson and Westchester roads. The teenager took his father's car without his permission and was charged with never receiving a license, careless driving, no proof of insurance and no registration. Officers turned the teenager over to his father, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 31-year-old Detroit man for drunken driving April 22 near Mack Avenue and Bedford Street. The man was driving 47 mph in a 30 mph zone and driving erratically. An officer stopped the man, who also had two bags of marijuana in the car as well as a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, concealed weapons permit violation and possession of marijuana. 

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested two Detroit men after they drove from an officer attempting to make a traffic stop for speeding. The men, 18 and 19, were each charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. An officer tried to stop the men, who were driving a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 55 mph in a 30 mph zone near Mack Avenue and Somerset Street. They continued driving but eventually stopped and ran from the car. Detroit police and the City of Grosse Pointe police, including K-9 officer Raleigh, helped locate both men.

Thefts

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the theft of a stereo system from a Chrysler 300 parked in the 15400 block of Mack Avenue. The window of the car was broken out between 7 to 9:45 p.m. April 19, according to a report.

In an another report, Park officers are investigating the theft of a 2000 Dodge Intrepid from the 1300 block of Yorkshire Road. The silver car was parked on the street in front of a home and was stolen between April 19 and 20, according to a report.

Warning given

A 31-year-old Detroit woman was given a warning by Grosse Pointe Park police April 19 for panhandling near Mack Avenue and Lakepointe Street. Police received a complaint about the woman and found her. They issued a warning and asked her to leave the area, and she did, according to a report.

In an unrelated case, a 43-year-old Detroit man was soliciting for money in the 15400 block of Mack Avenue April 23. He was told to leave the area, according to a report.

Fight under investigation

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating a fight that broke out on the front lawn of a home in the 900 block of Harcourt April 18 during a party. The fight erupted after a resident asked a group to leave the party following a disagreement, according to a report.
