Police Blotter: School Bully, Car Theft, Drunken Driving

Police in the Pointes are investigating a variety of reports.

The parent of a 15-year-old Grosse Pointe South student reported bullying to Grosse Pointe Farms police April 14 after he said his son was punched several times in the face in a locker room. The teen told officers another 15-year-old student has been harassing him since the beginning of the school year, periodically threatening to beat him up and the situation escalated this week. The teen had a bloody nose, swollen eye and sore ear following the situation in the locker room, according to a police report. The parent wishes to pursue charges and told officers school officials had been alerted to the problem now and throughout the year, according to a police report.

Drunken Driving Arrests

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 26-year-old Detroit man April 10 on North Harper near Parkcrest Drive for drunken driving. The man was stopped for a traffic violation after exiting I-94 at Allard Avenue about 4:10 a.m.  The officer observed that the driver had watery eyes and appeared sleepy and had a 0.12 percent blood alcohol content, according to police reports.

In an unrelated case, Grosse Pointe Farms police on April 10 arrested a 40-year-old Southfield woman who had a 0.13 percent blood alcohol content. A patrol officer stopped the woman near Mack Avenue and Moross Road after she stopped the car in the middle of the intersection on a green light, made a U-turn and the began backing up, going against traffic, according to a report. Police said she failed four field sobriety tests. The driver and her passengers all told the officer they were lost and trying to find Livernois Road, according to a report. 

Intimidation Reported

A 28-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man reported possible intimidation efforts by a home improvement company that he has been in court against after the company did work at his Hunt Club Drive home and he was not satisfied with the job. The resident told police he returned home from work on April 13 to find the name of the company written on the sidewalk in chalk. He told police he wanted it reported because he believes it may be an attempt by the company's employees to intimidate him to back off of court proceedings against the company. 

In another unrelated case, an employee of a Mack Avenue rental car business reported being threatened by a former employee who was fired. The employee told officers the ex-employee has been calling repeatedly and sending threatening text messages, according to Grosse Pointe Farms police. 

Stolen Cars Recovered

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 50-year-old Detroit man April 14 for possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing justice, driving on a suspended license, providing false information to an officer and 20 other outstanding warrants from around the state. An officer checked the license plate of the vehicle the man was driving on Harper Avenue near Allard Road and stopped the vehicle after discovering the car had been reported stolen. The driver gave the officer a false name because he didn't want to go to jail, according to police reports. 

In another unrelated case, Grosse Pointe Farms recovered a stolen car after two men from Detroit came to their police station to have a vehicle identification number verified on a car. The VIN on the vehicle did not match the federal stickers on other parts of the vehicle and officers discovered the car had been reported stolen. The car was taken into police custody, according to reports. 

Car Stolen from Garage

A Grosse Pointe Shores resident reported the theft of his 2011 Buick Enclave from his garage. The man discovered the car was missing from his garage on Woodland Place Drive early April 9 and the family last saw the car the night before. The owner's wife left the keys in the car. Officers did not find any signs of forced entry or any evidence. The owner told officers the garage door may have been left open but that the home's alarm system was activated overnight. Neighbors did not report anything suspicious, according to a police report. 

Golf Ball Vandalism 

An Oxford Road resident reported to Grosse Pointe Shores police that a kitchen window was broken by a golf ball around midnight on April 8. The resident told the responding officer he didn't see anyone after hearing the glass break and that the golf ball did not belong to any family members, according to a report.
