Police Blotter: Shoplifting, Drunken Driving, Shotguns

Police in the Grosse Pointes are investigating a variety of crimes.

Grosse Pointe Woods police officers arrested a 51-year-old Sterling Heights man March 5 for drunken driving after finding his car floorboard deep in mud and damage to his car and other objects around his car. The man got stuck in the 2100 block of Brys Drive, backed into a nearby brick wall and a garage, damaging both the garage and a car parked inside. He had slurred speech and was confused. He thought he was near Farmington Hills and Plymouth and told officers he took a wrong turn. He had a 0.16 percent blood alcohol content, double the state's legal limit, according to police reports.

Borders shoplifter arrested

City of Grosse Pointe officers arrested a 19-year-old Park man on third-degree theft charges March 8 after he was found concealing DVDs in his coat inside Borders in the Village. Employees spotted the man stuffing the DVDs in his coat, watched him enter the bathrooms, which triggered a sensor alarm. When he exited, the alarm did not sound and then he took a poster to the counter to pay for it. Officers approached him and he gave up the DVDs. An employee found the cases of the DVDs he'd torn off in a toilet in the bathroom. The man is also charged with a liquor law violation, possession of drug paraphernalia and had an outstanding warrant for home invasion from another jurisdiction, according to reports.
