Police Blotter: Stolen Cars, Bikes and Juvenile Arrest

Grosse Pointe Woods police investigate vehicle theft near medical center. ACTION team arrests pair, recovers stolen vehicle. Grosse Pointe Park police arrest juvenile court escapee.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of a 2000 red Jeep Grand Cherokee from the parking lot of a medical center at Mack Avenue and Moross Road Jan. 21. A woman reported the theft after going to see her mom, who was in the intensive care unit. She told police she parked the SUV and in a state of panic, placed her keys inside a backpack and then put the backpack into the car before entering the center. Her backpack contained a wallet with her driver's license and two school identification cards, according to police reports.

Two arrested by ACTION

A man and a woman were arrested by the Arrest Car Thieves In Your Neighborhood team (ACTION) after officers spotted the stolen vehicle parked behind a duplex in the 1200 block of Wayburn. The 19-year-old Detroit man and the 21-year-old Park woman are each charged with possession of a stolen automobile. The vehicle, a 2010 Dodge Challenger, was involved in two pursuits Jan. 19 in the eastern district of Detroit by Detroit Police, according to police reports.

Juvenile escapee arrested, returned

Park police arrested a 16-year-old Detroit man who was an escapee of the Wayne County Juvenile Court. Officers spotted the teenager loitering on Charlevoix on Jan. 21, thought he was truant from school and discovered his escapee status when they looked up his name in the system. He was arrested and then turned over to Wayne County officials.

Bicycles stolen

Two bicycles were stolen overnight Jan. 20 from inside a garage in the 1300 block of Beaconsfield, according to police reports. 

Firefighters clear smoke from house

Park firefighters doused burning fireplace logs in a home in the 1300 block of Bishop Road Jan. 19 after smoke began filling the home. The logs were removed from the home after being extinguished and a ventilation fan was used to help clear the smoke from the house, according to reports.
