Police Blotter: Teens Arrested in Alcohol Crimes

police arrested three 18-year-olds July 1 after they crashed a vehicle into a home in the 20 block of Warner Road. The car and the home were damaged in the crash.

Responding officers found two of the teens on the lawn of the home and witnesses showed the officers where a third teen ran following the crash.

The three men, two from Grosse Pointe Park and one from the City of Grosse Pointe, were each arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol. The driver of the vehicle was also charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The driver initially registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent on a Breathalyzer test and later a 0.18 percent on the Breathalyzer. The teen who ran from the scene registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 percent on a Breathalyzer test, according to reports. 

Teen Found with Bottle of Rum

In another unrelated case, the Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested another 18-year-old who was found to have his vehicle parked in the lot of a Lake Shore Road church with an open bottle of rum. A responding officer did not initially find the vehicle's occupants but then the teen walked back to it and admitted to drinking. He also told the officer he was with a 17-year-old girl but police were never able to locate her. The teen registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent on a Breathalyzer test and had marijuana in a prescription pill bottle. He was charged with possession of marijuana and minor in possession of alcohol, according to a report.  

Farms Woman Hit with Lawn Edger

Grosse Pointe Farms police helped a 58-year-old resident seek medical care July 3 after her father, who suffers from Alzheimer's, struck her with a lawn edger. Officers were called to the home for an assault. When they arrived, they found the 79-year-old man outside angry that he had been locked out of the house. They discovered the door had only been stuck, not locked, and found his daughter sitting on the floor of a bedroom with bloodied clothing. She had a cut to her head, shoulder and arm and told police her father struck her and threatened to kill her. An officer found the edger and questioned the father but he said he didn't remember. Police have been called to the home several times in the last few months for similar but less violent situations. Both were taken to the hospital, according to a report.

Brick Thrown Through Window – Twice

A brick was thrown through the same picture window twice June 28 in the 800 block of St. Clair Street. The 64-year-old resident reported the first breakage at 2:30 a.m. He replaced the window during the day and then called police again at 11:30 p.m. after a brick was thrown through the window again. He woke to the breaking glass sound and found the window smashed out again, according to a police report.

License Plate, Purse Stolen; Van Theft Thwarted

City of Grosse Pointe police received reports of two thefts. A resident noticed the license plate of his vehicle missing after shopping in a grocery store in the 600 block of Notre Dame July 2. In the other case, a woman reported her purse stolen June 29 after realizing it was missing from her shopping cart. She was shopping at a store in the Village and believes it was stolen from her shopping cart while she was talking to a clerk. 

The owner of a 2004 Dodge Caravan in the 1400 block of Bishop Road prevented the theft of the van June 29, according to Grosse Pointe Park police. The owner installed a kill switch, which turns the vehicle off when a proper key is not used.

Drunken Driving Arrests

police arrested a man July 2 about 12 a.m. near Lake Shore and Willison roads after he was stopped for driving 48 in a 35 mph zone. The initiating officer discovered the man had been drinking and had several outstanding warrants. He failed field sobriety tests and had a 0.22 percent blood-alcohol content, according to a report. 

police arrested a 35-year-old man July 4 about 1 a.m. after stopping him for a traffic offense on Harper Avenue near Allard Road. The man admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the night and told the officer he was carrying a concealed weapon for which he was licensed. During a search of his car, two bags of marijuana were found. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated by drugs and with a weapons offense. He'll appear in Grosse Pointe Woods court July 13. 

Park Resident Gets Noise Violation for Loud Party

police issued a noise ordinance violation to a 29-year-old woman in the 1300 block of Somerset Road June 30 after police responded to a loud party complaint. The woman was initially uncooperative with police but turned down the music after the citation was issued, according to a report.
