Police Blotter: Thief Leaves Slippers Behind

The following arrest information was supplied by the police departments in Grosse Pointe Woods and the City of Grosse Pointe. It does not indicate a conviction.

A resident in the 1000 block of Roslyn Road reported the theft of about $100 from a purse and a wallet between May 20 and May 21. The man told police upon waking up May 21, his wife discovered $50 missing from her wallet, a sliding glass door ajar and a pair of slippers that were left behind by someone whom he believes entered the home during the night. The slippers were on the deck outside the sliding glass door, which was only open about 1.5 inches. Another door is believed to have been used to enter the home. In addition to the cash missing from his wife's purse, $40 to $50 cash was also missing from his wallet, according to a report.

Teller Suspects Fraudulent Check

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the attempted cashing of a fraudulent check at a Mack Avenue bank. A Talmer Bank and Trust teller called officers May 25 after a woman with several children attempted to cash a check she believed to be fraudulent. The teller told the woman her check could not be cashed because her signature did not match the one on file and the woman left without a fight, which was another red flag to the teller. Typically, if a check is legitimate, customers get upset if they're told they cannot cash it, the teller told police.

Police Look for Flower Thief

police are investigating the theft of two hanging flower baskets taken by a woman from behind in the Village. The woman loaded the baskets into the back of her truck and drove the wrong way down the alley after asking an employee about whether the flowers were garbage. The employee told the woman no, but she loaded them and drove away. Officers went to the home of the registered owner of the truck to find the baskets hanging on the Hereford Road porch, which is in Detroit. A neighbor told officers the woman just came home, hung up the flowers and then left again. Officers took the flowers and returned them to Kroger but are trying to get in touch with the woman, according to a report.

GPS Navigation System Stolen

Another vehicle had its window smashed out and the navigation system stolen from its dashboard in the 19700 block of Mack Avenue. The car was parked in a bank parking lot. The crime is believed to have happened within a 15-minute time frame May 20. Several similar crimes have been reported throughout the Woods since earlier this month and a few have been reported in Grosse Pointe Farms, too. Police believe one person or a group of people are responsible for all of these break-ins.
