Police Blotter: Woman Reports Assault

The following information was gathered from the public safety departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 57-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman reported being assaulted by a man she previously had sex with after he returned to her house on another day asking to have sex again. The woman reported the assault June 21 about 11:40 p.m., about half an hour after her husband found out about the assault. Detectives took pictures of the woman's arms, chest, legs and back. The assault happened days earlier. The woman told police she had sex with the man while he was doing work at her house and he returned several days later requesting to have sex again but she declined and he assaulted her. The woman did not have the name of the man or much identifying information for police, according to a report.

Teens Turned Over to Parents

Grosse Pointe Farms police took two 15-year-olds into custody and turned them over to their parents June 21 after they were reported hiding in the bushes in two different locations. In the first case, officers were called to the 200 block of Cloverly by a woman who spotted a teenage girl hiding in bushes and crying shortly before 9 p.m. The officer searched the area and found the girl, who said she had been drinking at her own home earlier in the evening. She had a 0.13 percent blood alcohol content. Her mother was called to pick her up from the police department.

In the second case, officers found two teenagers hiding in the bushes near Ridge and Cloverly roads about 11:30 p.m. June 20. The teens came out of the bushes after an officer shined a spotlight on them. A 15-year-old boy admitted to having alcohol and marijuana in his backpack and to drinking at a party at a nearby home. The girl who was with him met him from her own home and had not been drinking. She was sent on her way but the boy was taken to the police station and his parents were contacted. Both cases were referred to the department's youth officer, Detective John Walko.

Thefts

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of jewelry from a home in the 1700 block of Hawthorne Road. Some of the jewelry was recovered by officers before the theft was reported because the 31-year-old man identified as the one who stole it was spotted staggering on Hawthorne near Goethe shortly before 8 p.m. The patrol officer stopped the man, whom he believed was intoxicated. The man had slurred speech and glossy eyes. The man told the officer he had a drug problem and asked to be taken to St. John Hospital, saying he needed help. During a search of the man, the officer found jewelry and the man said he retrieved it from the trash. Meanwhile, the homeowner arrived home shortly after 8 p.m. to discover her bedroom door open and dirty footprints near her dresser, from where jewelry was missing. She called police to report the theft. The man, she told police, had been painting her basement and was still painting when she left the house earlier in the evening. She also found some of the jewelry in the basement. Hospital officials said the man would not be released for quite some time because he had a blood alcohol content of 0.31 percent—just shy of four times the state's legal limit. The man was also possibly going to undergo a psychological evaluation, according to a report.
