Police Blotter: Women Target Unlocked Vehicles on Hollywood

The following information is gathered from Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

arrested a 20-year-old St. Clair Shores woman and a 19-year-old Roseville woman Aug. 24 after they allegedly were caught stealing by a Hollywood Avenue resident. The women allegedly broke into a car in the 900 block of Hollywood Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. The man went outside to find the dome light of his vehicle on and doors open. He heard two people running away and chased after them. According to a report, the pair stole two cell phones from his car and returned them at his request. Both were interviewed by police and said they were walking down the street opening unlocked cars to check for valuables. They chose the area because it is nice. They stole two cell phones, two wallets, a binder with a car key and two packs of cigarettes, according to a report. 

Hit and Run Crash in Parking Lot

A 59-year-old woman driving in a Mack Avenue grocery store parking lot struck a parked vehicle and then drove away. Witnesses to the crash called police and an officer located the woman, gathered her information and then released her. The victim/owner of the struck car left the parking lot before officers could respond to the scene, according to a report.

Suspicious Persons Investigated

A 46-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman returned to her home Aug. 21 to find a 20-year-old man in her backyard. When she questioned the man, he said he was to be meeting his girlfriend at that address, which she had provided. The homeowner said no one who lives at the house knows this man and he left in his car that was parked a few houses down the street. Police identified the man, who lives in Eastpointe, and have noted the report, according to a report.

arrested an 18-year-old Detroit woman on an outstanding felony warrant from Southfield. The woman was parked in a green Cadillac in the parking lot of a business in the Village and was reported as suspicious. A responding officer ran the license plate and discovered the warrant, according to a report. 

Jewelry Stolen from Bedrooms

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of gold jewelry from jewelry boxes inside a home in the 600 block of Briarcliff Drive. The owners of the boxes, 12-and-15-year-old girls, reported that both boxes had been rummaged through and were missing jewelry, according to a report filed Aug. 21. 

Drunken Driving Arrests

arrested an 18-year-old Detroit man Aug. 28 about 11:50 p.m. near Elm Court and Lake Shore Road for alleged drunken driving. Police said the man initially had a 0.15 percent blood alcohol level and during a more formal test had a 0.19 percent. An officer initiated a traffic stop because the vehicle the man was driving had a defective rear tire, according to a report. 

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 21-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man for drunken driving Aug. 27 near McKinley Place and Lake Shore Road. Police said the man had been driving on Lake Shore Road about 3 a.m. and nearly hit a patrol car traveling in the same direction on the street. He continued weaving across the yellow line and failed field sobriety tests. The man had a 0.16 percent blood alcohol content and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. His 24-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms passenger was charged with possession of marijuana, according to a report. 

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 24-year-old Bloomfield Hills man about 3 a.m. Aug. 27 for alleged drunken driving after stopping him for speeding. Police said the man was driving 35 mph in a 25 mph zone, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests and had a 0.17 blood alcohol content, according to a report. 

Harassing Telephone Calls

A 40-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms resident reported receiving repeated harassing phone calls from a man wanting to review details of an auto loan. The resident told the man he had not recently applied for a loan and told the man to take him off the call list. The man called back about every 30 minutes Aug. 27 between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and would not stop yelling at the resident or his wife when they said they had not applied for a loan. The residents reported the problem to the telephone company as well, according to the police report. 

Property Damage

A woman who lives in the 200 block of Stephens Road reported that a glass window was cracked by several young people who were outside her house a few weeks ago. This is the second time the woman is reporting such damage, which she believes has been caused by a BB gun, according to a report. 

Unpaid Bill, Dog Disturbance

Grosse Pointe Farms police escorted a 29-year-old resident home from Lucy's on the Hill Aug. 25 after he threatened the chef and could not pay his bill. Police said the man sat his dog on the bar of the restaurant and the chef told the man it was a health code violation at which point the man threatened to break the chef's face. When responding officers arrived, the man was outside and several employees provided witness statements. An employee contacted the man's mother to seek payment for the bill, which was about $125. She agreed to pay it the next day and the chef decided not to press charges saying he would not be available for court, according to a report.

Police Interview Stabbing Witnesses 

A patrol officer spotted a vehicle speeding on Cadieux Road from Mack Avenue Aug. 24 and began following it. The vehicle turned into Beaumont Hospital and a man got out and walked into the emergency room very slowly. The 28-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times in the face, mouth and shoulders. Officers discovered the stabbing happened near 6 Mile and Gratiot roads and that Detroit police had been on the scene. The man was transferred to St. John Hospital for surgery as he had lost a tooth, his tongue had been severed and the blade of the knife was lodged in his throat. City officers turned all of their reports over to Detroit police, who had already talked with the suspected stabber, according to a report.
