Police Blotters: Neighbor Disputes, Drunken Driver, Credit Fraud

Snow removal led to neighbors calling police about disputes and a drunken driver responsible for a three-car crash is arrested.

Police arrested a man they say was under the influence of alchohol and caused a three-car crash at Harper and Vernier roads on Jan. 29. The man was arrested after officers spotted his smoking, damaged minivan traveling east on Vernier Road. The 26-year-old Detroit man was bleeding from mouth and had a bump under his left eye when officers approached him during a traffic stop. The man told officers he had not been involved in a crash, but the vehicle matched the description given by the other motorists and the damage was appropriate for the crash described. He smelled of alcohol and he told officers he was near 13 Mile and Schoenerr roads. The man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license. He also had several other outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions, according to reports.

 Snow leads to neighbor disputes

Two neighbor disputes were reported to Grosse Pointe Woods police in the aftermath of last week's snow storm. In the first case, neighbors in the 600 block of North Brys Drive argued about snow removal. One resident reported to police that snow was being put in places it shouldn't be and that the other neighbor's outdoor light is too bright. In the second case, neighbors in the 900 block of Roslyn Road argued about snow removal. The reporting resident told police there have been disagreements before now but this is the first time he's called police. He fears for his safety and believes their is tension related to race. One of the residents is white and the other is black, according to police reports.

Resident reports fraudulent credit

A Kenmoor Drive resident reported to Grosse Pointe Woods police that she recently discovered a fraudulent credit account that had been opened in her name. The woman told officers she discovered the account, which has an outstanding balance of $698, while trying to process a mortgage loan. The account was opened by someone other than her on July 2, 2010, and the woman signed an affidavit for the company issuing the credit to say she had not applied for it, according to police reports.
