Police Investigate Car Thefts, Cigarette Theft

The following information was gathered from the public safety departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Police arrest two men for allegedly trying to steal a car 

Grosse Pointe Woods Police were called Nov. 4 after a resident in the 1700 block of Huntington saw three suspicious men attempting to steal a Dodge Stratus. A resident reported seeing three men walking around a vehicle parked in front of their neighbor's house, and standing by the driver's side door. Investigators found the driver's side door damaged and believed they were trying to enter the car. Police were able to locate and arrest two Detroit men, a 16- and 17-year-old, on vehicle theft charges. Police are seeking to locate the third man. 

Minivan stolen

A witness reported Nov. 3 seeing a teenage male steal a Chrysler minivan from a home in the 1600 block of Newcastle. The witness reported seeing the minivan back out of the driveway quickly with its light off, and speed away. 

Cigarettes stolen

A 31-year-old Macomb Township man reportedly grabbed two cartons of cigarettes Nov. 4 from the CVS on Kercheval in the City of Grosse Pointe. According to a report, a witness shouted at the man, who dropped the cigarettes and ran. The witness followed the man, and with the assistance of a police detective, were able to apprehend the man on Neff. He was arrested on retail fraud charges.
