Police Investigate Drug Arrest, Theft From a Car and Family Dispute

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrests

Grosse Pointe Shores police stopped a Dodge Caravan at Lake Shore and Provencal for defective equipment, and when officers approached, they found the vehicle's windows open in 35-degree weather and smelled a "strong odor of marijuana coming from vehicle," according to a Nov. 12 police report. An officer saw rolling papers on the floor, and after a further search of the minivan, an open bottle of vodka was found along with a bag containing several buds of marijuana. Police arrested a 23-year old Detroit man on charges of marijuana possession and warrant; a 20-year-old St. Clair Shores woman on marijuana possession and a 22-year-old Harper Woods man on charges of marijuana possession and open liquor container.

Police were called after the driver's side window was broken out of a Volkeswagen mini van Nov. 13 at Bramcaster and Stanhope in Grosse Pointe Woods. A GPS/radio was stolen from the vehicle. 

Family dispute

A 43-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man was arrested following a domestic dispute Nov. 14 in the 2000 block of Ridgemont. Police were called for a fight in progress and found a mother and daughter yelling at the man. A 40-year-old woman said her husband had reportedly punched her 17-year-old daughter in the her face. He threatened to "cut" the teenager, when her mother got between the two. The girl was able to escape and ran inside her house to get a kitchen knife to protect herself.
