Driver blocks ramp
A 37-year-old Detroit resident was arrested for an open container of alcohol, operating under the influence of alcohol, driving while license suspended and an outstanding warrant after a Grosse Pointe Woods police officer spotted him blocking traffic at Harper and Stanhope during the early morning hours Sept. 17. Initially the man had stopped at the exit ramp. An officer pulled up and observed the driver was sleeping. After numerous attempts to wake him, he finally woke him and was told to clear the intersection. When he stopped, and the officer approached the vehicle, a report stated the driver smelled of alcohol, and had blood shot eyes. A check of the driver's record found that he had numerous contacts with the law and had a record that included 78 current suspensions and four prior alcohol convictions. A check of the vehicle found a bottle of vodka on the floor and cup of suspected alcohol in the cup holder. The driver was taken to Cottage Hospital for a blood draw.
Potatoes and diet pills stolen
A 50-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman was arrested Sept. 16 on charges of retail fraud and resisting an officer after reportedly leaving the CVS Pharmacy after she allegedly tried to steal diet pills. Grosse Pointe Woods police were called after the woman had placed diet pills in her purse and attempted to leave the story without paying for the items. She was detained at the door, and when an officer arrived and tried to place her in handcuffs, she smelled of alcohol according to a police report. She pulled away from officers before she was finally placed in handcuffs. Two potatoes from Kroger were found in her purse, and investigators believe they may have been stolen.
A 25-year-old Grosse Pointe Park woman reported Sept. 16 someone used her name and birthday to fill prescriptions for Vicodin. The woman had her wisdom teeth removed and had received a prescription. When she tried to have it filled, someone had used her personal information six times to fill her prescription. Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating.
