Police Investigate Stolen Vehicles, Fake Payroll Checks and Drug Possession

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Stolen vehicle stopped

Grosse Pointe Shores officers heard a "high pitched" sound during the early morning hours of Aug. 24 near Lochmoor and Lake Shore saw two vehicles speeding. Officers stopped a Dodge Stratus that only had one working headlight. As officers approached, the passenger fled. Officers unsuccessfully tried to to Taser the man. The 19-year-old St. Clair Shores man was arrested on Sunningdale near Morningside on receiving a stolen vehicle and obstructing police charges. The driver remained in the car, which was registered out of Warren. The driver, a 17-year-old from St. Clair Shores, told officers that the car was taken from a house party in St. Clair Shores. According to a police report, neither driver or passenger was related to the owner. The driver was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, driving without license, and driving without having acquired a license.

Grosse Pointe Shores police stopped a Jeep with tinted windows in the early hours of Aug. 24 on Lake Shore. According to a police report, the occupants said they were at a Grosse Pointe Park bar for a fantasy football draft. Officers searched vehicle and found suspected marijuana under the passenger seat. Officers arrested a 21-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man who was in the passenger seat.  

Moped stopped

Grosse Pointe Farms stopped a 41-year-old Detroit man Aug. 25 who was driving a moped at Mack and East Warren and failed to come to complete stop while turning on a red signal on a moped. The man had no license, and check of his criminal history found he had multiple warrants from communities in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. He was arrested and his moped was impounded.

Fake payroll checks 

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 21-year-old man, and 23-year-old woman, from Eastpointe Aug. 24 on uttering and publishing charges for reportedly trying to cash fake payroll checks at Mr. C's Deli. The female had tried to pass a fake check previously, and was arrested at the store.

Illegal u-turn leads to arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms officers saw a Buick, that was driving with its high beams on, make an illegal u-turn Aug. 24 on Mack at Moross. Officers stopped the car, and determined it to be stolen. Officers arrested the driver, a 25-year-old Detroit woman, for driving while license suspended, giving false identification, expired plates, no proof of insurance and felony warrants. Two Detroit women, who were 35- and 37-year-old, were also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
