Police Release Sketch of Suspect in Attempted Robbery of Nun

Park police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-2587.

Grosse Pointe Park Police have released a sketch of a man who tried to rob a 74-year-old nun Feb. 28 at St. Clare of Montefalco Church following a service. 

The man, described as 18 to 22 years old, 150 pounds, 5-foot-8, black with a medium complexion, waited inside the church following the service and approached the nun from behind with a gun, according to police. 

He demanded money from the nun, who was locking up the church at 1401 Whittier Road about 10 p.m., but she had none on her. The man patted down the exterior pockets of her clothing and then ordered her into a bathroom.

The man then stood in the hallway eventually leaving. No one was injured and nothing was stolen during the attempted robbery, according to police. 

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-773-2587.
