Prosecutors Begin Bashara Preliminary Exam

Bob Bashara appeared in court Monday for his preliminary exam in the murder case for killing his wife, Jane Bashara.

The first day of the preliminary exam in the murder case against Bob Bashara began Monday in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, although it started a few hours late.

The exam was delayed until early afternoon after a prisoner - not related to the Bashara case - escaped from custody.

Once Bashara's preliminary exam for the murder of his wife, Jane, began prosecutors called six witnesses. Witnesses included, Bashara's mother, were called to testify.

Witnesses, seen on a video stream from wxyz.com, described an argumentative relationship between Bob and Jane, and one where Bob often lied to friends, family and acquaintances.

These lies, according to testimony, included telling a cousin that he was not having an affair; after telling people that he didn't like violence, it was revealed that he had a revolver in a safety deposit box; and he lied about taking a trip.

Others including Patricia Matthews, shared conversations she had with her good friend Jane Bashara about her relationship with her husband. Matthews said that Jane told her that "Bob always lies" and that their children caught their father watching "weird" porn.

She also added that Bob couldn't handle finances, and on one occasion took $10,000 from Jane's 401k without her permission.

After a half-day of testimony, the exam was adjourned until Tuesday morning.
