Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Grosse Pointe Park Teen

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested an 18-year-old Grosse Pointe Park resident May 5 shortly after midnight after he was spotted leaving the parking lot of South High School and failed to yield right of way as he exited.

The officer began initiating a traffic stop, but the teen continued driving and sped up. The pursuit continued reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour and the teen drove through stop signs.

He was eventually arrested at Neff and Maumee after an officer blocked the teen at the intersection. While searching the vehicle, police found 30 cans of beer inside a cooler and another container.

The teen said he obtained the alcohol from a friend's house and drank one. A 17-year-old passenger was with him but had not drank any alcohol. Officers confirmed this with tests on both.

The teen told officers he drove from them and refused to stop initially because he didn't want to cause his family problems as it related to the passenger.
