Two men who were inside the truck at the time of the crash ran from it after it came to a rest and St. Clair Shores police used their k-9 officer to track the men, Yonkowski said. The track led police to one side of Vernier and then back across Vernier onto Anita Avenue, where the dog lost the trail, Yonkowski said.

Despite a heavy patrol presence, the men got away, he said. It was not known whether either sustained injuries in the crash because they got away, he said.

The truck was not reported stolen and belongs to a person who resides in Warren, Yonkowski said, explaining the rest of the investigation is being performed by St. Clair Shores police.

The truck did not sustain heavy damage nor did the area of the crash, although a street sign was struck, Yonkowski said.
