Rollover Crash on Grosse Pointe Woods-Farms Border Injures 2, Damages 3 Vehicles

Mack Avenue closed for nearly an hour following an three-car crash near site of busy elementary school fundraiser. Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety officers are investigating the crash.

Public Safety officers are investigating a three-vehicle crash Sunday that left the driver and passenger of the initiating vehicle with injuries. Their vehicle went airborne and rolled over shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday on Mack between Moross and Cook roads.

The crash closed a portion of northbound Mack Avenue for nearly an hour as emergency crews tended to the driver and passenger of the car crash-landed on its rooftop after hitting two parked cars near Colonial Court.

Responding officers said it appeared the driver and passenger of a late-model, four-door sedan were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Both were taken away by ambulance. One was given roadside care while police officers interviewed witnesses. Their injuries did not appear to be serious considering the top of the car was crushed completely on the driver's side.

Dozens of witnesses saw or heard the accident, which happened near the site of an annual Haunted Garage at the home of Glen Williams, a Grosse Pointe Public Schools physical education teacher.

The parked cars belonged to families from , which was holding its annual fundraiser at Mr. Williams' home Sunday.

Two witnesses driving behind the car that flipped said it inexplicably hit the parked cars and flew through the air. Another witness said the crash and the car landing on the concrete sounded similar to a series of gunshots.

Both parked cars sustained damage. One of the cars had to be towed from the crashsite while the other was driven home with a shattered back window and rear-end damage.

At least one police officer wore surgical gloves to search their car, which was cluttered with clothing, shoes and other items.

Williams and Maire parents watching the scene were relieved that no children or parents were hurt.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, including whether criminal charges are appropriate.
