Series of Bike Thefts, Larcenies Under Investigation

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police are invstigating a series of bike thefts. The following thefts have been reported: 

  • two bicycles were stolen from the backyard of a home in the 1300 block of Maryland between April 5 to 14
  • a men's black bicycle was stolen from a garage in the 900 block of Nottingham bettween Feb. 16 to April 16
  • a mountain bike taken from the yard of a home in the 1200 block of Beaconsfield was recovered by officers in an alley one block away April 18

Grosse Pointe Park police are also investigating several other thefts, including:

  • a wallet, identification, cash and checks were stolen from a car parked in a driveway in the 1400 block of Somerset April 15 to 16. The car was unlocked and a wallet was stolen from the console of the car.
  • a charcoal grill was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1300 block of Wayburn April 15 to 16

Handgun Stolen

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the theft of a handgun and several power tools from a home in the 1400 block of Buckingham Road. A surveillance video shows the theft happened at about 1:30 a.m. April 19. The homeowner provided police with a potential suspect, according to a report. 

Food Ignites on Stove

Grosse Pointe Park firefighters extinguished a stovetop fire April 18 at a home in the 700 block of Harcourt. Crews discovered the homeowner left food cooking on the stove. The fire was put out by an extinguisher, according to a report.

Ligtening Strike

Firefighting crews from Grosse Pointe Park and the City of Grosse Pointe arrived at a home in the 800 block of Park Lane to find that a fire started along the roofline. No one was home at the time of the fire and heavy thunderstorms were moving through the area. A lightening strike on the house is possibly responsible for the fire, according to a report.
