Snow Storm Leads to Accidents and Arrests

The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

The winter storm which hit the Grosse Pointes led to accidents and arrests on Jan. 5.

Reported incidents include:

  • A Ford Fusion struck struck and knocked down a light pole about 11:30 a.m. Jan. 5 near 1100 Lake Shore.
  • As officers from Grosse Pointe Shores investigated the accident between the car and light pole, a car struck the rear of a scout car. No injuries were reported.
  • Officers from Grosse Pointe Shores were called about 10:50 a.m. to Lake Shore and Still Meadow for a car driving erratically before driving into a snow bank. When officers arrived, they found a Honda Accord with both front tires on the median in the snow bank and the driver was found slumped over in the car. Officers were able to wake the 32-year-old driver from Columbus. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating under the influence.
  • Grosse Pointe Farms police officers stopped a 34-year-old Roseville woman early Jan. 5 after she drove from East Warren onto Mack about 55 miles per hour and lost control in the intersection in the loose snow.  The driver was able to regain control, and then resumed on Mack at 45 miles per hour. The vehicle was pulled over, and as the driver looked for her insurance and registration, an officer observed a plastic bag with suspected marijuana in the purse. The drive was ticketed for marijuana possession.
