Special Attention Given to Mason by Grosse Pointe Woods Police

Following what police believe were prank phone calls to Mason Elementary School Wednesday, Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety is providing special attention as a precaution.

Grosse Pointe Woods police believe two phone calls made Wednesday to Mason Elementary School were pranks by an individual who has no intention of carrying out any illicit activity, Detective Sgt. Raymond Yonkowski said Thursday.

The school on Vernier Road is still receiving special attention as a precaution, Yonkowski said, but detectives believe the caller was "getting satisfaction out of talking to the school members and saying what he said," Yonkowski said.

Officers provided extra security Wednesday during dismissal, he said, and are continuing to give it special attention.

The calls were blocked and from what the employees were able to describe, police believe the man was simply making prank calls, Yonkowski said.

School employees were told to alert police if they received any more calls of a similar nature, he said. The caller mentioned wanting to take pictures of girls and made comments of a sexual nature, according to the letter sent to parents by Mason Elementary Principal Elaine Middlekauff.
