The Next Time Park ‘Miscreant’ Poops, It May be Captured on Video

An unknown miscreant has been pooping on the slide at Ypsilanti playground with some regularity.

"We have a problem in Prospect Park with a miscreant that does not understand the difference between a children’s playground slide and a toilet,” Ypsilanti Police Chief Tony DiGuisti told his officers in a January email. (Photo: City of Ypsilanti)

If you’re noshing on something as you sit before your computer, you may want to bookmark this story to read later. And if you’re visiting Prospect Park in Ypsilanti, you may want to hold your nose.

Here’s the straight skinny behind all that posturing:

An unknown malefactor has been defecating on children’s slides at the park – “obviously, … a bad situation,” Ypsilanti Councilman Pete Murdock told The Detroit News.

It’s been going on for about six months, with “deposits” left on the slides with enough regularity that city officials are considering installing a hidden surveillance camera.

City officials thought an unusually harsh winter might curb the activity, but it didn’t. In January, Police Chief Tony DiGuisti sent an email to police officers asking them to keep a extra watch on goings on at the park.

“We have a problem in Prospect Park with a miscreant that does not understand the difference between a children’s playground slide and a toilet,” he wrote. “Apparently this extremely misguided individual feels the need to defecate on the slide despite the cold weather.”

With the arrival of spring, when the slides and other playground equipment get greater use, Ypsilanti officials are worried the foul activity may escalate.
