Theft of Car Ends in Carjacking Charge in Grosse Pointe Park

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested an 18-year-old Detroit man for carjacking May 23 after he tried to steal a car from the 15000 block of Mack Avenue. 
The man was in the midst of stealing a 1994 Jeep Cherokee from behind an address on Mack Avenue about 2 a.m. The owner heard her car start, ran outside and tried to open the SUV's door, according to police. 
He sped up, knocking her down in the process. The owner sustained minor injuries as a result.
The man led Grosse Pointe Park police on a pursuit into Detroit. He was arrested with the help of the City of Grosse Pointe's K9 officer, Raleigh. 
Sanchez Watkins is charged with carjacking, according to police.
