Thief Redefines Pizza Carryout

A Detroit man plead guilty Thursday to stealing pizzas from a delivery man at Beaumont Hospital.

A 35-year-old Detroit man who stole four pizzas from a delivery driver at Beaumont Hospital was ordered Thursday to pay fines and restitution, or face jail time, for the theft.

Tony Rodgers appeared in Grosse Pointe Municipal Court Thursday for the Oct. 26 incident.

According to a police report, officers were called for a theft from a vehicle in emergency room parking lot. The victim, a 23-year-old Harper Woods resident who works for Papa Romano's, was delivering a large order to the emergency room.

The driver had dropped off part of the order, and when he returned to his vehicle, he saw Rodgers leaning inside his vehicle. He stood up with the pizzas and placed them on the trunk of the vehicle when he was confronted, according to a report.

Rodgers then got inside a mini-van and fled the scene. Grosse Pointe Park police were able to locate the vehicle and arrest Rodgers.

Rodgers was charged with the misdemeanor and plead guilty before Judge Russell Ethridge.

"You are a thief. You were stealing from the hospital staff that was waiting for their pizza to come," Ethridge said prior to sentencing.

He sentenced Rodgers to up 90 days in jail, or pay $625 in costs and fines.
