Unattended Candle Possible Cause of Grosse Pointe Park House Fire

Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety officers responded to two recent fires. One caused heavy damage to a home on Lakepointe.

A Grosse Pointe Park home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage May 24 after a fire ignited in the living room. A neighbor in the 700 block of Lakepointe called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. and responding crews found the living room fully engulfed in flames. Crews from the City of Grosse Pointe and Grosse Pointe Farms were also called to the scene. Preliminary investigation shows the fire may have been due to an unattended burning candle, according to a report. 

No Damage Reported in Stove Fire
A home in the 1000 block of Beaconsfield was undamaged after a fire ignited on the stove May 25. The resident saw flames coming from the stove and called 911. A responding officer was able to extinguish the fire upon arrival. The stove was unplugged and the gas line was shut off, according to a report.
