A Grosse Pointe Woods police officer observed a white Dodge Caravan the evening of Aug. 28 and with a defective headlight on Harper near Allard. When the officer checked the license plate, the officer found that it was stolen out of Madison Heights. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it pulled through the Sunoco and onto westbound Vernier - almost striking a police cruiser. The pursuit reached nearly 85 miles-per-hour with the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic. The driver attempted to pass a vehicle on the right side of the intersection of 8 Mile and David, and clipped a curb and lost control of the vehicle. It skid across all lanes of traffic before crashing into the median. Three men fled from the vehicle, and police arrested a 17-year-old from Detroit for possession of a stolen vehicle.
