Grosse Pointe North High School teacher Gary Abud received another round of recognition related to being named the Michigan Teacher of the Year. Grosse Pointe Shores and Woods councils have recognized Abud's accomplishment.

Grosse Pointe Shores city council honored Grosse Pointe North High School teacher Gary Abud Tuesday night related to him being named Michigan Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Department of Education.
Abud spoke briefly to the council following the honor by the council. He is a science teacher at North and was recommended for the award anonymously. He competed with four other finalists across the state.
Grosse Pointe Woods city council also recognized him a few weeks ago during a council meeting. Mayor Robert Novitke signed a resolution honoring Abud.
In the Woods, officials are also having street signs prepared that will be placed at the entrances of the city to recognize the teacher of the year being in Grosse Pointe Woods, City Administrator Al Fincham previously told Patch.
They are not yet completed but will be put up as soon as they are finished, Fincham said.
Abud was surprised with the announcement with an all-school assembly, where Michigan Superintendent of Public Education Mike Flanagan announced the news
