City of GP to Host Master Planning Workshop

The workshop will allow residents, business owners and other stakeholders to share their thoughts and opinions about what they would like to see in future development of the City of Grosse Pointe.

The is updating its master plan for the first time since 2004 and will host its first public session to gain feedback and ideas from residents and whomever has an interest in City development and goals.

Master plans are required for all cities in Michigan and the plan outlines goals and desires of cities with a focus on the future. .

In the City of Grosse Pointe, the master plan should include goals related to economic development, maintaining housing values, ensuring quality public services and addressing the balance between the needs of the hospital and its residential neighbors, according to a press release announcing the workshop by City Manager Pete Dame.

The session is designed as a workshop where attendees will be broken into smaller groups to share discussion and ideas about future development in the City. The feedback garnered from the workshop will help city officials in determining what areas of the master plan need to be addressed and in what ways.

City officials are looking for feedback related to the business districts, including:

  • Fisher Road

The workshop will be led by the City's planning firm, McKenna Associates. To begin the workshop, the planning firm will provide basic background details and usages currently happening in the city.

Among the details to be outlined generally are:

  • land use
  • traffic
  • site conditions
  • trends

The update to the master plan will hopefully address issues the City will confront in the next decade, according to the release. Dame previously told Patch the process of updating the master plan takes about six months. This workshop is the first step.
