Computer at Issue in Grosse Pointe Shores

Mayor Ted Kedzierski had the hard drive of the computer copied so any council member wishing to look at it will have access.

A topic that heated up last week in is likely to surface again tonight at the council's regularly scheduled monthly meeting—the computer belonging to the city manager.

Councilmen Dan Schulte and Robert Barrette called for a last-minute special meeting last week to discuss access to the city computer. The meeting did not happen because they were the only two councilmen to show up.

Schulte told Patch he had requested to see 's city-issued computer but was denied access by other city employees. Schulte said he was not looking for anything in particular but just wanted to pursue the computer.

"This is not a witch hunt," Schulte said.

He believes the city should purchase a new computer for the interim city manager, Mark Wollenweber, and keep the former city manager's computer on hand and accessible but that it should not be used.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Safety John Schulte oversaw the copying of the hard drive at the request of Mayor Ted Kedzierski. John Schulte said information on the computer regarding the budget, which is being drafted and edited now, is needed by finance officer Rhonda Ricketts.

Kedzierski wanted the computer to be secure until the copying could be completed, John Schulte said.

After the special meeting fell through, Dan Schulte added the item to tonight's council agenda. He said he does not understand why there is such sensitivity about him seeing the computer and he questions why it was not copied as soon as it was turned in.

Kedzierski said the copy is intended to make the computer accessible to any council member who wishes to see it.

The computer will be turned over to Wollenweber, who officially begins his interim position today.
